Pollarding of Trees, River Cam

Tree pollarding is an ancient pruning technique that involves removing the upper branches of a tree to promote growth of new branches at the top. The process is done on a regular basis, typically every 1-5 years, to keep the tree at a certain height and to prevent it from growing too large. Pollarding is often used in urban areas where space is limited and trees need to be kept under control. The practice can also be used to produce wood for fuel or other purposes, as the regrowth is often dense and strong. While pollarding can be effective in managing the growth of trees, it requires skill and knowledge to ensure that the tree remains healthy and aesthetically pleasing.

We continue to take pride in enhancing the local environment. Starting in late 2022, we pollarded 150 trees along the river bank from Chesterton to “Grassy Corner”.
